Step 2 · Confirm Nosing Dimensions and Step Width
First, check the 'nosing overhang'—that's the part of the step that hangs over the riser below. For a safe installation, this should be between 3/4 and 1 1/4 inches. Also, make sure the rounded edge has a radius no more than 1/2 inch to prevent any potential trip hazards, giving your family peace of mind. Finally, measure the total width of your step from side to side. Our custom-made-to-fit treads are designed to match this full width, giving you complete coverage and a truly polished finish.

Measure the depth of the tread including the overhang — keep the total nosing projection between 0.75 and 1.25 inches.
