What happens in this clip
With the half-post now securely attached to the existing railing and serving as a stable anchor, proceed to mount the baby gate using its standard mounting hardware. Attach the gate's hinges and latches directly to the prepared half-post. This completes the installation, providing a safe baby gate without drilling any permanent holes into your home's railing.
Goal: Attach the baby gate to the newly installed half-post.

About the full video
This DIY project provides a method to securely mount a baby gate to a stair railing without drilling any screws into the existing baluster or post. It involves using a custom-cut half-post, non-slip drawer liner, and durable velcro straps to create a stable, temporary mounting surface for the baby gate.
Step 4 of 6: Install Baby Gate Hardware
Read the baby gate manufacturer's instructions carefully. Typically, this involves mounting brackets or posts to the wall and/or banister post at the top of the stairs. Ensure the mounting points are structurally sound. Use a level to ensure the hardware is installed straight. Mark the screw hole locations, drill pilot holes if necessary, and securely fasten the hardware.
