What happens in this clip
With the wooden mounting boards securely attached to the banister posts, proceed to install a wall-mount baby gate. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific gate model. The gate's hardware (brackets, hinges, latch mechanism) will be screwed directly into the hardwood flooring pieces, creating a robust and safe barrier. The video demonstrates the finished installation, showing the gate opening and closing properly and latching securely onto the mounted hardwood.
Goal: Mount the baby gate securely to the newly created wooden surfaces.

About the full video
This DIY project provides a clever solution for installing a baby gate on staircases with non-standard or irregularly shaped banister posts, where traditional pressure-mounted gates are not suitable, and drilling into the existing posts is undesirable. The method involves securing vertical wooden planks (repurposed hardwood flooring in this case) to the banister posts using extra-long zip ties, creating stable and temporary mounting surfaces to which a standard wall-mount baby gate can then be attached.
Step 4 of 6: Install Baby Gate Hardware
Read the baby gate manufacturer's instructions carefully. Typically, this involves mounting brackets or posts to the wall and/or banister post at the top of the stairs. Ensure the mounting points are structurally sound. Use a level to ensure the hardware is installed straight. Mark the screw hole locations, drill pilot holes if necessary, and securely fasten the hardware.
