What happens in this clip
Align the hinge and latch mounting pieces onto the wall and the newel post at the desired height. Secure these pieces directly into the wall studs and the newel post using a drill/driver and appropriate screws. Ensure these mounts are not glued, allowing for easy removal if needed. Attach the gate onto the installed hinges, making sure it swings freely. Then, using the gate itself as a guide, mark the precise location for the latch mechanism on the newel post. Pre-drill and secure the latch components to the newel post with screws, ensuring a secure closure. Finally, check the gate's movement and latch functionality.

About the full video
This video details the construction and installation of a custom rotating baby safety gate, designed with a parallelogram mechanism and pivot hinges for dynamic spaces. The project involves cutting and shaping ash wood, drilling precise holes for dowels and slots, sanding, finishing with stain, Danish oil, and polyurethane, and finally assembling and installing the gate onto a staircase newel post and wall.
Step 5 of 6: Attach Baby Gate
Following the manufacturer's instructions, assemble the baby gate if necessary. Then, attach the gate to the previously installed hardware. Ensure the gate latches securely and operates smoothly. Test the gate by opening and closing it several times to confirm it functions correctly and provides a secure barrier.
