What happens in this clip
Return to your focal wall and begin installing the vertical battens. Start by placing two vertical pieces in the corners of the wall. Measure each vertical board individually to ensure a precise fit between the floor and the horizontal trim piece. Cut the boards to the exact required length. Apply construction adhesive to the back of each vertical piece. Position the board, ensuring it is plumb (perfectly vertical) with a level, and then secure it with a nail gun. Maintain the consistent spacing (e.g., 19 inches) that was planned earlier for all subsequent vertical battens. When moving to an adjacent wall, if the corner already aligns with your spacing, you might not need to add another corner piece; simply continue the chosen spacing. This meticulous approach helps create a clean and symmetrical appearance.

Cut your batten material (e.g., 1x3 pine or 1x4 pine) to the length required to go from the top board to the baseboard (or the marked height line). Use a level to ensure each batten is perfectly plumb (vertical). Attach the battens to the wall studs using finishing nails or screws. Ensure they are flush with the top board and meet the baseboard squarely.
