What happens in this clip

Take the first stair tread and place it on the lowest step. Use a tape measure to ensure the tread is centered on the stair and that there is a consistent gap from the side walls on both sides. Also, measure the distance from the front edge (nosing) of the stair to the back of the tread to maintain uniform placement. Mark the desired position lightly if necessary.

About the full video

This project demonstrates the quick and easy installation of pre-made, self-adhesive stair treads to add style, safety, and comfort to wooden stairs. The process involves preparing the stairs, accurately positioning each tread, and securing them in place, transforming a bare staircase into a finished look.

Step 2 of 6: Align with Precision: Mark Your Center

Before you begin placing any treads, take a moment to accurately mark the center of each stair step. A pencil or chalk works perfectly for this. This center mark will become your trusted guide, ensuring each tread is placed perfectly straight and evenly across your stairs. Because our treads are custom-made to fit, you'll find that significant trimming isn't typically needed, which simplifies this alignment process even further. This attention to detail is part of The Oak Valley Difference, ensuring your staircase looks its best.
