Stair Tread Replacement
Step 3 of 5

Step 3 · Step 3: Measure Twice, Cut Once for a Perfect Fit
Carefully measure the width of the stair opening for each tread you're replacing—don't assume they're all identical! Mark these measurements clearly on your new treated lumber. Using a circular saw or a handsaw, make your cuts. Strive for perfectly straight, square cuts, as this will ensure your new treads fit beautifully without any unsightly gaps.
Label each cut tread with its intended position on the stairs to avoid confusion.

General Hazard
Always follow the safety guidelines for your saw. Ensure the lumber is securely clamped before cutting.
