With the skirting boards removed, carefully measure the exact dimensions required for your winder step and winder step extensions. Place the winder step and extension pieces onto the landing area and mark any areas that need to be cut to achieve a precise fit, especially around corners or existing newel posts. The video shows using a measuring tape to determine the length needed and marking the pieces with a pencil. Make sure to test-fit each piece multiple times, adjusting cuts as needed, to ensure a snug and accurate placement around any obstacles, such as the newel post or wall edges, before proceeding to permanent installation.
Goal: Prepare winder steps and extensions for final installation
This project guides you through refurbishing a staircase landing area by installing new winder steps and winder step extensions. It covers measuring for the correct materials, preparing the area by removing skirting boards, precisely cutting and test-fitting the new steps, and finally installing them with adhesive and brads, then reinstalling the skirting boards for a refreshed look.
Measure the total length and height of the staircase wall. Note any obstructions such as light switches, outlets, or windows. This information will be crucial for planning the layout.
Plan and install a collection of framed artwork or photos on the wall along a staircase to create a visually appealing display. This involves selecting artwork, planning the layout, choosing appropriate hanging hardware, and executing the installation while considering the angled space.
