The final step is to install the decorative trim and the light bulb. Most trims are mounted with either coil springs or squeezeable rod springs. If your trim has rod springs, squeeze both ends of each spring and insert them into their assigned holes on the inside of the can, then push the trim upward until it is snug against the ceiling. If your trim uses coil springs, hook each spring into its assigned hole inside the can, then pull each spring outwards and hook it onto the trim. Carefully guide the trim into position until it's flush with the ceiling. Lastly, insert the light bulb into the socket. The type and maximum wattage of the bulb you need are typically marked on the inside of the trim or the can itself. Ensure you use the correct bulb type to prevent fire hazards and ensure optimal lighting performance.
Goal: Attach the decorative trim and install the appropriate light bulb
This project guides you through the process of planning, installing, and finishing recessed lighting in your home. It covers important considerations like light placement, insulation compatibility, selecting appropriate trim types, roughing in electrical wiring, securely mounting the light canisters, and finally installing the trim and bulbs.
Many recessed light fixtures come with a trim or cover that snaps or screws into place to conceal the drywall edge and the fixture housing. Install these components as per the manufacturer's instructions to complete the installation and provide a clean, professional appearance.
This project involves planning the layout, safely running electrical wiring, cutting holes in the wall, installing the light fixtures, and connecting them to a power source. It's a moderately complex electrical project that requires careful attention to safety and building codes.
