What happens in this clip

As an alternative or supplementary method, the narrator suggests inspecting the underside of the staircase. If there is an accessible area (such as a cupboard or an open-plan design where the underside of the stairs is exposed), additional screws can be driven through the risers and into the back of the treads, or through the stringers into the treads and risers. This mechanical fastening will pull the components tightly together, eliminating movement and preventing creaking.
