What happens in this clip

Once the pink top coat is completely dry, you can begin adding decorative stenciled patterns. Select a flexible stencil with your desired design (e.g., floral or scrollwork). Position the stencil on the riser of the top step and secure it firmly with masking tape to prevent movement and paint bleed. Using a small stencil brush, apply a contrasting darker shade of pink or fuchsia paint (a Valspar Defense product is visible) by dabbing directly over the stencil. Carefully lift the stencil to reveal the pattern. Repeat this process for each stair riser, ensuring consistent placement and crisp edges.

Goal: Apply decorative stenciled patterns to the stair risers using a contrasting paint color.

About the full video

This DIY project demonstrates how to transform plain concrete outdoor stairs into a vibrant and aesthetically pleasing entrance. The process involves cleaning, applying a white base coat, painting the stairs a bold pink color, and then adding intricate decorative patterns using stencils and a contrasting darker pink paint.

Step 4 of 6: Stencil Application (if applicable)

Position the stencil on the stair riser where you want the design. Secure the stencil using painter's tape. Using a stencil brush or a small foam roller, apply paint over the stencil openings. Use a dabbing or light rolling motion to avoid paint bleeding under the stencil. Once painted, carefully remove the stencil while the paint is still slightly wet.
