Pry Off Baseboard Trim

Choose an appropriate pry tool, such as a trim puller or a thin pry bar (like the Dasco Pro), as these tools have a wide, thin edge that helps distribute pressure and reduce damage. Avoid using thick pry bars (like a large roofing pry bar) or small cat's paws for prying, as they concentrate force and can split the trim or puncture the wall. Gently insert the chosen pry bar behind the baseboard, ideally at a marked stud location, tapping it in with a hammer if needed. Slowly and carefully pry the baseboard away from the wall, working along its entire length. It's often beneficial to work in stages, making several passes along the trim, gradually increasing the gap between the trim and the wall. If resistance is met, re-check for un-severed caulk or paint lines and re-score them with a utility knife.
