What happens in this clip
Once the first new skirting board has its cutout, position it over the existing skirting board and against the wall. Secure the new skirting board into place using a nail gun. Drive a nail through the decorative profile of the new skirting into the wall, and another nail into the base of the new skirting board, connecting it to the existing skirting for enhanced stability.

Step 6 of 10: Install New Skirt Boards
Apply a bead of construction adhesive to the back of the skirt board where it will contact the wall studs. Position the skirt board against the wall, ensuring it is flush and aligned correctly. Secure the board by driving finish nails through it into the wall studs at regular intervals (e.g., every 12-16 inches). Use a nail gun or a hammer and finishing nails. Ensure nails are driven slightly below the surface for later filling.
